Donation Transparency Policy

Right First Time UK

Effective Date: 12 May 2026

Purpose

Right First Time UK is committed to full honesty, accountability, and transparency in how donations are received, managed, and used.

Public trust is essential.

People who support our work deserve to know where their money goes, how it is used, and how it helps create real change.

This policy explains how donations are handled and how we ensure all funds are used for public benefit.

We do not operate for private profit.

All funds must support the charitable purposes of the organisation.

Our Commitment

We are committed to ensuring that:

  • all donations are used lawfully and responsibly
  • funds are applied only for charitable purposes
  • donors are treated fairly and honestly
  • fundraising is transparent and respectful
  • accurate financial records are maintained
  • financial decisions are properly authorised
  • no trustee or volunteer receives improper personal benefit

Trust is built through openness.

What Donations Help Support

Donations may be used to support:

Homelessness Awareness Projects

Helping families and vulnerable people access support, housing guidance, and homelessness prevention resources.

Complaint Guidance Resources

Providing complaint templates, public information, tribunal guidance, and awareness materials for people facing public service failures.

Campaign Support

Supporting public campaigns, petitions, interviews, investigations, and awareness work focused on fairness and accountability.

Crisis and Hardship Prevention

Helping with emergency signposting, safeguarding escalation, community support projects, and practical hardship prevention work.

Employer and Community Support Resources

Providing information to help employers, workers, and communities better understand rights, responsibilities, and support pathways.

Lawful Public Interest Challenges

Where lawful and appropriate, supporting evidence preparation, parliamentary submissions, public accountability work, and wider reform campaigns.

Organisational Sustainability

Supporting website costs, compliance, safeguarding, administration, policy management, governance, and the safe operation of the charity.

Every donation supports public benefit.

What Donations Will Not Be Used For

Donations will not be used for:

  • private personal gain
  • personal trustee income (unless lawful and properly authorised)
  • misleading fundraising claims
  • unlawful activities
  • political party campaigning
  • personal legal representation unrelated to charitable purposes
  • unapproved personal expenses
  • any activity outside the charity’s governing document

Public money must be protected.

Trustee Oversight

The Trustee Board is responsible for overseeing all financial activity.

Trustees must ensure:

  • spending is properly approved
  • financial records are accurate
  • receipts and supporting evidence are kept
  • donations are used responsibly
  • annual accounts are prepared
  • Charity Commission and HMRC obligations are met

Strong governance protects public trust.

Restricted and Unrestricted Donations

Some donations may be:

Restricted Funds

Donations given for a specific purpose, such as homelessness support or a named campaign.

These funds must only be used for that purpose.

Unrestricted Funds

General donations that allow the organisation to respond where support is most needed and maintain safe operation.

Both are managed carefully and transparently.

Gift Aid

Where Right First Time UK is registered for Gift Aid with HMRC:

eligible UK taxpayers may increase their donation by 25% at no extra cost.

This helps us create greater impact from every donation.

Gift Aid records will be maintained in line with HMRC requirements.

Fundraising Standards

We are committed to responsible fundraising.

We will:

  • be honest about fundraising purposes
  • clearly explain how donations are used
  • never pressure people into donating
  • respect vulnerable donors
  • protect donor information under GDPR
  • comply with lawful fundraising standards

Support should always be given freely and with trust.

Financial Records and Reporting

We maintain:

  • accurate financial records
  • secure donation records
  • spending approvals
  • annual financial reporting
  • audit readiness where required

Transparency creates confidence.

Where appropriate, we may publish summary updates showing how donations support our work.

Reporting Concerns

If anyone has concerns about how donations are used, they may contact us directly.

Concerns will be taken seriously and reviewed fairly.

Accountability protects everyone.

Our Promise

Every donation matters.

Every pound represents trust.

We are committed to using that trust responsibly—to protect families, support vulnerable people, strengthen communities, and push for real reform.

Your support funds action.

Not silence.
