1. Britain faces a dangerous world
He opened by saying the world is becoming more dangerous and unstable, especially mentioning conflict in the Middle East. He said the UK’s:
- energy security
- defence security
- economic security
will all be tested.
2. Government will protect national security
He said the government will:
- strengthen defence
- protect long-term energy security
- protect the economy
- defend British values of decency, tolerance, and respect
- take urgent action against antisemitism
- make communities safer
3. Improve living standards and reduce cost of living
He said the government wants to raise living standards across the UK by:
- maintaining economic stability
- controlling the cost of living
- using public investment to attract private investment
- working in partnership with business
- supporting fairer work and higher growth
4. Stronger trade and closer EU ties
He said ministers would introduce legislation to:
- improve trading relations
- strengthen ties with the European Union
- open new trading opportunities
- lower prices for working people
5. Major infrastructure projects
He announced support for:
- airport expansion
- faster road building
- the Lower Thames Crossing
- Northern Powerhouse Rail
- protecting domestic steel production
6. Reform public services
He said the government would push major reforms in:
- policing
- the NHS
- the criminal justice system
- immigration and asylum systems
7. Education and young people
He said every child should have the chance to succeed and announced:
- better school standards
- major reform of special educational needs (SEN)
- support for apprenticeships
- tackling youth unemployment
- welfare reforms for young and disabled people
- stronger respect for vocational education
8. Digital ID
He said the government would introduce:
- Digital ID
to modernise how citizens interact with public services.
9. Trust and standards in public office
He announced:
- Hillsborough Law (duty of candour for public servants)
- legislation to remove peerages
- civil service reforms for better delivery and accountability
10. Housing reforms
He said the government would:
- increase investment in social housing
- reform leasehold
- cap ground rents
11. National security and cyber threats
He announced legislation to:
- tackle threats from foreign state actors
- respond to the Southport attack
- protect people from extreme violence
- strengthen cyber-security defences
12. Support for the Armed Forces
He said the government would introduce an Armed Forces Bill to:
- improve the service justice system
- place the Armed Forces Covenant into law
- support service personnel and their families
